The new 60,000 square-foot facility includes 48,000 square feet of warehouse space and 12,000 square feet of office space. It is AEI's first warehousing and distribution facility in Canada. The Company is evaluating adding similar centers in other Canadian cities before the end of the year. "The boom in NAFTA-related transborder trading activity, along with steadily increasing distribution business, continues to drive demand for our unique brand of seamless, value-added logistics solutions," said Reg Kenney, country manager, AEI Canada. "AEI Canada's revenue has quadrupled over the past four years, and further growth is projected. As a result, we had completely outgrown our previous facility in Toronto, and needed to strengthen our capabilities in distribution. The new facility will also allow us to showcase AEI's leadership in warehouse management system technology, already in use at other distribution center's around the world." The new operation solidifies AEI Canada's position as one of the country's leading providers of one-stop logistics services, Kenney said. "AEI has dramatically expanded its cross-border brokerage services through the 1996 acquisition of John V. Carr & Son. We have also enhanced our ocean freight forwarding business, strengthened our project forwarding' services with a new, full-service office in Calgary, and fully integrated our Vancouver operation, Jagro International, into AEI Canada," he said. "Our new Toronto facility will be integrated with all of those capabilities to further our leadership role as Canada's leading provider of supply-chain management services." The new Canadian headquarters positions AEI to take full advantage of Toronto airport's new "Cargo Village," which is expected to be completed in the year 2000. The redevelopment of Pearson International Airport will result in the existing cargo complex being moved to an infield location, accessed by tunnels. AEI's new building will be adjacent to the entrance of the new complex, Kenney said. "We will then be closer to our customers' freight than ever before," he said. "That means we will be able to break down and clear inbound freight faster, and extend cut-off times for outbound consignments as well." AEI's Toronto operation serves the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba, and supports transborder services between Canada and U.S. border crossing points, primarily in northern New York state. Headquartered in Darien, CT, AEI is a world leader in integrated logistics services, delivering multi-modal transportation, warehousing and distribution, customs brokerage, consulting and information management solutions across a global network of 875 locations in 135 countries. AEI's stock trades on the NASDAQ-National Market System under the symbol AEIC. (Note to editors: Additional information about AEI can be found on the World Wide Web at http://www.aeilogistics.com.)
