                        ATLANTIS PLASTICS 
                     ANNOUNCES THE SALE OF
                  ITS TULSA CUSTOM FILM FACILITY

ATLANTA, GA - (January 7, 1997) Atlantis Plastics, Inc. (ASE:AGH) today
announced that it has sold its Tulsa, Oklahoma custom film facility to a group
of private investors in a cash transaction. The sale price was $1.5 million.
Net cash proceeds after taxes and expenses will be applied toward general
corporate uses. Production at the Tulsa facility was consolidated into the
Company's two other custom film manufacturing facilities in August of this
year. 

Anthony F. Bova, President and CEO of Atlantis Plastics, commented, "We are 
pleased to announce our agreement to sell the Tulsa custom film facility. This
is part of our previously-announced strategy to dispose of  non-strategic
assets,  improve production efficiency, and lower production and overhead costs
throughout our organization. Compared to 1995 levels, we have reduced our
overall cost structure in excess of $7 million and our net debt to less than
$95 million versus $115 million at December 31, 1995 and a high of over $142
million in May 1995. Looking forward, we will seek to concurrently grow our
core businesses and identify additional cost reduction and production
efficiency opportunities. We remain confident that the steps that we have taken
so far will positively impact our profitability."

Atlantis Plastics, Inc. is a leading U.S. manufacturer of polyethylene stretch
and custom films and molded plastic products. Stretch films are used
principally to stretchwrap pallets of materials for shipping or storage, and
custom film products, which include high-grade laminating films, embossed
films, and specialty film products, are marketed to the industrial and
agricultural markets.  Atlantis' molded plastic products are distributed
primarily to original equipment manufacturers in the appliance, automotive,
agricultural, and recreational vehicle industries.
