        ATLANTIS PLASTICS ANNOUNCES
        WEST COAST EXPANSION PLANS


Atlanta, GA - (March 31, 1999) Atlantis Plastics, Inc. (ASE:AGH) announces
definitive plans to establish a plant to manufacture linear low-density
polyethylene stretch film for the West Coast market.

Joseph J. Piccione, Vice President and General Manager of the Stretch Film
Business, commented, "We are well along with our strategic assessment of
potential West Coast sites through our work with Ernst & Young.  We plan to be
in production by late 1999."

Anthony F. Bova, President and CEO, added, "This initiative is consistent with
our drive to be an operational cost leader and to more effectively serve our
valued, current and future, customers in the high-growth western market where
we expect to be the region's largest producer of stretch film.  In addition,
we are planning to add state-of-the-art cast extrusion capacity in
Nicholasville, Kentucky to keep pace with our significantly increased volume
nationally."
