                   ATLANTIS PLASTICS ANNOUNCES
         APPOINTMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT, GM - STRETCH FILMS

ATLANTA, GA - (May 6, 1997) Atlantis Plastics, Inc. (ASE:AGH) today announced
the appointment of Joseph J. Piccione (35) as Vice President, General Manager
of its Stretch Film unit. Piccione joined the Company in 1996, serving as Vice
President, General Manager of its Custom Film business. Prior to that
appointment, he was the Business Manager for the flexible packaging division of
Bryce Corporation. Previously, he was Marketing Manager for a joint venture
between UCB Films Company (U.K.) and Flexel, Inc. to market OPP films in the
United States. He worked for Mobil Chemical Company for six years, lastly as a
Product Manager for specialty polyethylene films used in food, tobacco, and
cassette packaging. 

Piccione received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from
Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. He will report directly to
Anthony F. Bova, the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, who will
supervise the Custom Film unit until a permanent replacement has been
appointed.

Atlantis' Stretch Film unit, which is headquartered in Tulsa, OK, is a
manufacturer of multilayered linear low density polyethylene films which are
used to wrap pallets of material for shipping or storage.

Anthony F. Bova, President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "Joe Piccione has
done a superlative job in repositioning our Custom Film unit to solid
profitability. Under his leadership, we have grown our volume, reduced over
overhead expense, refocussed our marketing strategy, and divested a
non-competitive facility. We believe his  results-oriented approach, coupled
with his significant experience in packaging and specialty plastic films, are
the ingredients required to profitably grow our stretch film business."

Atlantis Plastics, Inc. is a leading U.S. manufacturer of polyethylene stretch
and custom films and molded plastic products. Stretch films are used
principally to stretchwrap pallets of materials for shipping or storage, and
custom films, which are made-to-order specialty film products, are used in the
industrial and agricultural packaging markets.  Atlantis' molded plastic
products are distributed  primarily to original equipment manufacturers in the
appliance, automotive, agricultural, and recreational vehicle industries.
