          ATLANTIS PLASTICS ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF 
  VICE PRESIDENT, GM - CUSTOM FILMS AND INSTITUTIONAL PRODUCTS

ATLANTA, GA - (July 1, 1997) Atlantis Plastics, Inc. (ASE:AGH) today announced
the appointment of William E. Rice (49) as Vice President, General Manager -
Custom Films and Institutional Products. Rice has over 23 years experience in
the sales and marketing of plastic packaging products, including 19 in
management positions. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President,
Stretch Film Division for AEP Industries (NASDAQ/NM:AEPI), a manufacturer of
polyethylene packaging. He worked in this division in various sales management
capacities for over ten years. From 1975 to 1985, Rice served in the stretch
film division of Mobil Corporation (NYSE:MOB), his last position being Market
Development Manager.

Rice received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of
Denver. He will report directly to Anthony F. Bova, the Company's President and
Chief Executive Officer.

Atlantis' Custom Films and Institutional Products unit, which is headquartered
in Atlanta, is a manufacturer of specialty blends of single and multilayered
polyethylene films which are used for a variety of packaging, protective,
converting, and industrial applications. The Institutional Products unit
converts polyethylene films into sundry products such as disposable gloves,
bibs, aprons, bags, boots, and table covers.

Atlantis Plastics, Inc. is a leading U.S. manufacturer of polyethylene stretch
and custom films and molded plastic products. Stretch films are used
principally to stretchwrap pallets of materials for shipping or storage, and
custom films, which are made-to-order specialty film products, are used in the
industrial and agricultural packaging markets.  Atlantis' molded plastic
products are distributed  primarily to original equipment manufacturers in the
appliance, automotive, agricultural, and recreational vehicle industries.
