Amer Physicians: Uncommon Care, Inc. Expansion
AMERICAN PHYSICIANS SERVICE GROUP, INC., (AMPH)
UNCOMMON CARE, INC. EXPANSION
AUSTIN, TEXAS, March 14, 2000 - American Physicians Service Group, Inc. ("APS")
(NASDAQ:AMPH) today announced that Uncommon Care, Inc. had expanded its
operations to Scottsdale, Arizona. Uncommon Care, which is 34% owned by
American Physicians, develops and operates specialized residential care
facilities for those with Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Ken Shifrin, Chairman of American Physicians, stated, "Uncommon Care has
just opened its seventh facility and its first outside of Texas. They have
also begun construction on facilities in Louisville, Kentucky and Nashville,
Tennessee and will soon begin on a second facility in Fort Worth, Texas, all
with openings scheduled this year. When we invested in Uncommon Care in early
1998, they had just two facilities. Their growth, in a period of much
uncertainty in the long term care industry, is confirmation of our belief that
Uncommon Care possessed the management team and unique product to be
successful."
Mr. John Trevey, CEO of Uncommon Care, stated, "Our Scottsdale facility
continues our model of providing the finest, most personalized care in an
intimate home-like setting. All of our private pay facilities are
professionally designed to reflect the architecture and ambiance of the
community in which they are located. Community integration, coupled with our
specialized program of care, serve as the foundation for our services. We are
pleased with the positive reception that the facility is receiving, as
indicated by one of the strongest fill rates that we have had so far."
APS is a management and financial services firm with subsidiaries and
affiliates which provide: medical malpractice insurance services for doctors;
brokerage, and investment services to institutions and individuals; lithotripsy
services in 34 states; refractive vision surgery; and dedicated care facilities
for Alzheimer's patients. The Company is headquartered in Austin, Texas and
maintains offices in Dallas and Houston.
