AvalonBay Communities, Inc. Announces Date for its
Second Quarter Earnings Release and Conference Call


AVALONBAY COMMUNITIES, INC.  (NYSE/PCX:AVB) announced today that it will
release second quarter earnings on July 19, 1999, after the market closes, and
hold its second quarter conference call on July 20, 1999 at 11:00 AM Eastern
Time (EST).  The domestic and international number for the conference call is
(888) 836-6071.  The replay of the call will be available from July 20th at
11:59 PM EST until July 27th at 11:59 PM EST.  The dial-in number for the
