COMPTEK WINS $1.4 MILLION CONTRACT TO SUPPLY
U.S. AIR FORCE WITH PRECISION TARGETING SYSTEMS
BUFFALO, NY, March 16, 2000, -- Comptek Research, Inc. (Amex:CTK), announced
today it was awarded a $1.38 million contract to supply the U.S. Air Force with
124 stereoscopic PC-based systems to be used for the rapid location and precise
measurement of three-dimensional terrain features from high resolution
satellite imagery.
The systems, which use a proprietary software tool known as "RainDrop,"
successfully provided the majority of the precision-guided weapons coordinates
used by the U.S. Air Force in the Balkans during Operation Allied Force.
Chairman, president and chief executive officer John J. Sciuto, of Comptek
Research, Inc., said, "This order validates the effectiveness of our
technology. With this order the U.S. Air Force increases the number of
RainDrop units it is currently using to more than 300."
By quickly locating and measuring terrain features in a stereo image pair,
RainDrop assists military personnel in accurately pinpointing geographic
objects.
World Wide Technology, Inc., an Internet solutions integrator, placed the order
for delivery to the Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base in
Massachusetts. This order will be filled by Comptek's Hollywood, Maryland
subsidiary, Comptek PRB Associates, Inc. Comptek PRB, which was acquired by
Comptek in May 1998, is a recognized technology leader in military mission
planning and precision targeting systems.
Comptek Research, Inc., with offices and subsidiary locations in the United
States, is a domestic and international supplier of technically advanced
electronics and data communications systems to government and industry.
RainDrop is a photogrammetic software tool originally developed by DeVoe &
Matthews, L.C., an affiliate of PRB Associates, Inc.
