CHARLES, Md._ Equus Gaming Company L.P. (Nasdaq: EQUUS), a publicly traded partnership with horse racing and entertainment interests in the Caribbean, announced today that El Comandante Operating Company, Inc. (ECOC) has reported that its commissions on wagering at El Comandante Race Track in Puerto Rico increased 2.8 percent to $57.3 million for the year ended December 31, 1996, as compared with commissions of $55.7 million during 1995. Thomas B. Wilson, President of ECOC, attributed the increase to a change in the racing program from eight races on each of four days a week to seven races on each of five days a week since February 1, 1996. This resulted in the track hosting 1,823 races during 1996 compared to 1,720 races in 1995. Equus has an 82 percent interest in HDA, a partnership that owns El Comandante. ECOC leases the track and pays HDA 25 percent of wagering commissions as rent. HDA also owns a 55 percent interest in a company that leases and operates a government-owned race track and OTB agency system in the Dominican Republic. # # # Ends.
