AngioDynamics Introduces 4Fr Uni*Fuse Thrombolytic Infusion Catheter QUEENSBURY, NY Sept. 28, 2001 AngioDynamics, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of E-Z-EM, Inc. (Amex: EZM.A and EZM.B) today announced the introduction of its 4Fr Uni*Fuse(TM)thrombolytic infusion catheter. Commenting on the announcement, Robert M. Rossell, Vice President of Marketing for AngioDynamics, said, ``Thrombolytic infusion remains one of the most commonly performed types of procedures for the Interventional Radiologist and is expected to be so for many years to come. The 4 Fr Uni*Fuse expands our line of infusion systems for catheter-directed thrombolysis. We feel that Uni*Fuse catheters offer unique features that can increase the therapeutic success of the thrombolytic procedure while helping to make the procedure less time-consuming and costly. The 4Fr Uni*Fuse(TM) gives Interventional Radiologists an additional weapon in their fight against thrombus.'' Infusion ports of the Uni*Fuse catheter are Pressure Responsive Slits instead of side holes, with infusion lengths of 5,10, and 20cm. The slit design provides even distribution of the thrombolytic drug across the entire infusion length which can result in reduced drug use and faster lysing times. This saves time and money and can help reduce the chance of adverse events. For ease of placement, two radiopaque markers mark the infusion pattern, one at each end of the infusion area. Other features include a catheter shaft made from a strong polymer that resists kinking when advanced through tortuous anatomy. The strength of the catheter shaft provides good pushability without sacrificing tractability. The catheter is designed to be placed over a 0.035 guidewire. The 4 Fr Uni*Fuse(TM) comes with its own Occluding Ball Wire. The proximal end of the wire is designed with a patent-pending hub that connects directly to the 4Fr catheter. The hub allows fluid to flow through while keeping the occluding wire in place. E-Z-EM, the world's largest manufacturer of contrast agents for gastrointestinal radiology, has developed the only CT injector on the market that can help detect contrast extravasation, the PercuPump® with patented EDA(TM) technology. The Company's wholly-owned subsidiary, AngioDynamics, manufactures a wide range of products, including angiographic, thrombolytic, vascular access, and drainage products, as well as stents and medical devices for angioplasty. Enteric Products, Inc., another subsidiary, develops, manufactures and markets tests for detection of the ulcer-causing bacterium Helicobacter pylori.
