E-Z-EM to Exhibit at American Speech-Language Hearing Association

Lake Success, NY; November 21, 2002 - E-Z-EM, Inc. (AMEX EZM) today announced it will be 
exhibiting at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Annual Convention at 
the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, GA, November 21-24, 2002. The Company’s exhibit, 
Booth #1015, will feature its Varibar® line of barium products-the first family of imaging 
agents designed specifically for use in modified barium swallowing studies.

Varibar imaging agents were developed in cooperation with speech-language pathologists at 
leading research universities to help address an important need among clinicians diagnosing 
and treating swallowing disorders. Before the introduction of Varibar products, clinicians 
were using contrast agents designed for anatomic imaging and not for observing the swallowing 
function. These agents had to be diluted or thickened prior to use, taking additional time for 
manual preparation and yielding inconsistent results. With the Company’s recent introduction 
of Varibar Thin Liquid to the Nectar, Honey and Pudding viscosities, clinicians can now 
evaluate the swallowing function across a standardized range of viscosities. Varibar imaging 
agents also provide the minimal coating characteristics and uniform opacity required in 
swallowing studies, while stimulating normal salivation and swallowing by mimicking the taste 
and texture of real food.

The theme of this year’s ASHA Convention is "Communication is our Strongest Link." The Convention
attracts over 10,000 speech-language pathologists, audiologists and speech and hearing 
scientists, who come to get the latest research and clinical practice information through a 
four-date series of speeches, presentations, and exhibits.
