FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALBL NAMED CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO
VICE PRESIDENT OF RADIO WARFARE
CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO, January 10, 2000, Covington, KY: Legendary radio guerrilla and Clear Channel Radio President Randy Michaels is staffing up for an assault on radio programming countrywide. Dressed in battle fatigues and brandishing weapons that are likely forbidden by the terms of their work release programs, Michaels and right hand programming maven Tom Owens announced today that MICHAEL ALBL will join the Clear Channel Radio Programming Swat Team as Vice President of Radio Warfare. Albl, known to many in the radio industry as the quintessential balance between programming genius and certifiable lunatic, rejoins the Michaels/Owens team after spending nine years in the bunkers at Critical Mass Media as Executive Vice President of Marketing. During his tour at Critical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel, Albl was heralded for his work in creating Nest Marketing, At-Work Marketing for Radio and the infamous POWER PIG at Tampas WFLZ. Albl, however, is perhaps best known for his keenly developed skills in dumpster diving, a sport he perfected during the early days of his career in Cincinnati with Randy Michaels. Quips the CCU Radio President, "Hey, it was a perfect fit: Michael really enjoyed his forays into the dumpsters and he usually surfaced with some useful piece of trash on a bothersome competitor. No one said winning in the radio business had to smell good."
Adds Owens, "This is a full circle as Michael was my first programming assistant at WEBN-FM in the mid 80s. Despite that harrowing experience, I am convinced that Michael will bring numerous assets to our team, including an unparalleled work ethic, organizational skills, a sophisticated knowledge of data management systems and software, innovative marketing/promotion technology, as well as an arsenal of low-orbiting surveillance devices and military grade explosives. I would say that Michael is dangerously close to accomplishing his lifetime goal of having former neighbors describe him in network news accounts as "a quiet guy who kept to himself mostly but spent a strange amount of his time enlarging the crawlspace underneath his house."
In his new role in Clear Channel Radio programming, Albl will arm all 830 Clear Channel Radio stations with technology, programming, content, information and hi-tech weaponry that will be critical in growing ratings. Says Albl about his move to Clear Channel, "It's all about not knowing about what you dont know first. Then pretending you do know what you dont know that no one else knows you dont know. It gets the competition every time and is a proven method of increasing shareholder value and owners equity."
Critical Mass President John Martin sums up his former VP this way: "Albl has some very strange DNA flowing through him. Kind of a blend of Bill Gates entrepreneurial genius, a hungry pit bulls determination and John Belushis humor. Hes quite a package. Im glad hes on our side."
