(Nasdaq: JCOR) agreed to sell KKLQ-FM and KJQY-FM in San Diego to Heftel Broadcasting Corporation for $65.15 million in cash. The sale of two San Diego stations was widely anticipated as one of the prerequisites to closing Jacor's pending purchase of Nationwide Communications, Inc. In October 1997 Jacor announced it had signed a letter of intent to purchase Nationwide's entire station portfolio for $620 million. Nationwide operates 17 stations in 11 broadcast areas, including two stations in San Diego. Jacor already operates eight stations in San Diego. The sale of KKLQ and KJQY is currently under regulatory review and is subject to several conditions, including but not limited to, Jacor's closing of the Nationwide transaction. Jacor is the nation's second largest radio company measured by total stations. Including announced pending acquisitions, Jacor now owns, operates or represents 203 radio stations in 56 broadcast areas and WKRC-TV in Cincinnati.
