JACOR CLEVELAND ADDS KEVIN METHENY AS
NEW OPERATIONS MANAGER
Metheny rumbles up from Jacor's Jacksonville
COVINGTON, KY June 10, 1998: Jacor's (Nasdaq: JCOR) Kevin Metheny is adding Cleveland to his long resume of programming gigs. Metheny, formerly Ops Manager for Jacor's Jacksonville group, has set up his office in Cleveland's WTAM-AM to begin programming Jacor's powerful sports and news talk signal. Metheny comes to the job with an impressive list of credentials in music and radio programming including WNBC New York, MTV and VH-1. The move to Cleveland is nothing new for the twenty year broadcasting veteran who has worked his way across the country, programming radio in more than a dozen markets including San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas and, most recently, Jacksonville. Says Tom Owens, Jacor Senior Vice President of Programming, "Kevin has wanted to become involved with Jacor's newstalk products for sometime and we've been waiting for the right opportunity. By combining Kevin's programming weaponry with WTAM's talent line up and newly acquired baseball rights we've created a programming powder keg. We feel terrific about the stations ratings potential with Kevin at the helm".
Jim Meltzer, General Manager of Jacor's Cleveland cluster, added, "Kevin's a firey guy with a bit of a Napoleonic complex. Has something to do with his Howard Stern experiences, I think. Made him mean. Anyway, I hired him because he has less hair than I do."
Cleveland's WTAM is a 50,000 watt news talk/sports channel at 1100 on the AM dial, and Metheny's first non-music programming challenge in some time. Says Metheny, "The greatest professional love affairs of my life have been with great AM stations. This is where the rubber hits the road and I'm thrilled to be driving it here in Cleveland. Anyway, I knew when I undershot Tom Owens by five strokes the last time we were on the course that my Florida days were numbered. Florida programmers who threaten Tom's intra-company golf supremacy always end up getting their attentions diverted...usually somewhere cold. Don't think I didn't figure that one out! And by the way, I have A LOT more hair than Meltzer. He's just mad because my office is bigger than his."
