FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAROLYN GILBERT PROMOTED TO
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT/GENERAL MANAGER
CRITICAL MASS MEDIA

CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO, Covington, KY February 17, 2000: Clear Channel Radio President Randy Michaels today promoted Carolyn Gilbert to Executive Vice President/General Manager of wholly owned subsidiary Critical Mass Media. Gilbert takes the helm from former President John Martin who was recently named President, Clear Channel Website Services Group.

Gilbert has been in the trenches at America's foremost supplier of radio research and marketing services since before it began, having started WEBN/Cincinnati's in-house research company in 1981. The resume is long, beginning at WRSC/WQWK/State College, PA in 1972, WWEZ and WEBN in Cincinnati, and running a jingle production and consumer research company along the way. She was there the day Critical Mass Media was incorporated on May 1, 1987 and has hands-on experience with every aspect of CMM operations.

Says John Martin, "Carolyn will be a tremendous leader for Critical. To whom do you think I have delegated all these years?" (Actually, John would NEVER say "whom," but Carolyn has also been in charge of Critical Mass grammar since the beginning.) Adds Gilbert, "The team at Critical Mass is one of the most dedicated and passionate groups of people in the industry. I'll be dependent on them as we move through this time of what we've come to fondly call 'bone-breaking change.' But we’re all veterans. Over the years we’ve faced the challenges of radio consolidation, ownership changes and heightened research competition. John Martin's outstanding leadership was critical to our success. I fully intend to bother him endlessly as we make this transition and will forever consider him the best of all possible partners. The web group is VERY lucky to have him."

Adds Gilbert, "Years ago, when John got his first lap-top, we taught him the concept of 'Alt-Tab' and 'Save As.' He immediately began calling himself 'the Internet Guru.' Taking his lead, and seeing how it turned out for him, I think I'm going to start calling myself 'Julia Roberts.’ We'll see what happens."

Clear Channel Radio President and CMM founder Randy Michaels, when asked about the officer changes, said, "Carolyn Gilbert? She’ll be great. She’s been running the place for years anyway…she just never told John. And the two of them never tell me anything. Hell, they dreamed this whole thing up while I was out of town."

Gilbert adds the new responsibilities to her previous role as EVP/Research Operations. The promotion is effective immediately.
