   WINSLOEW FURNITURE SELLS CONTINENTAL ENGINEERING GROUP, INC.

PELHAM, AL - (July 1, 1998) WinsLoew Furniture, Inc. (NASDAQ/NM:WLFI) today
announced that it has sold its Continental Engineering Group, Inc. subsidiary,
which is a manufacturer of ready-to-assemble ("RTA") ergonomically-designed
computer workstations, to Vertiflex Company, a manufacturer of RTA furniture
headquartered in Chicago, IL. WinsLoew classified its RTA segment as a
discontinued operation in December 1997 in order to focus on the continued
growth and expansion of its core businesses, casual furniture and contract
seating products. Continental,  which is located in Irwindale, CA, had
approximately $10.0 million of annual revenues. 

Bobby Tesney, President and CEO of WinsLoew Furniture, commented, "With the
disposition of Continental Engineering Group, we will have substantially
completed the strategic operating plan which was put into effect in 1995. We
expect to dispose of the remaining assets of our RTA segment (one small
business) in 1998.

acquisition and growth strategy to add complementary product lines and

reduced operating costs and increased sales resulting from a series of measures
