                             PRESS RELEASE

     XTRA Corporation announced today that its Board of Directors has
elected Michael M. Christodolou as a Director of the Company, effective
immediately; increasing the size of the Board from eight to nine members.

     Mr. Christodolou is Director of Equity Investments for Taylor and
Company, an investment consulting firm providing services to entities
associated with the Bass family, including Trinity 1 Fund, L. P. Trinity
currently owns approximately 9% of XTRA Corporation's shares outstanding.

     Robert B. Goergen, Chairman of XTRA, stated, "We are pleased to welcome
Mr. Christodolou to EXTRA's Board; he will be a valuable addition."

     XTRA Corporation (NYSE) leases, primarily on an operating basis,
over-the- road trailers, marine containers end intermodal equipment,
including intermodal trailers, chassis and domestic containers.
